Es ist wichtiger denn je, den Blick auf die politische und wirtschaftliche Lage in der Türkei – einem Land zwischen Repression und Widerstand – zu weiten. In diesem Sinne müssen die progressiven Stimmen der Türkei zu Wort kommen und Gehör finden. Die 14 Auor:innen des Buches geben Auskunft über ein Land im Umbruch, werfen Schlaglichter auf die Verhältnisse am Bosporus: Grundrechtseinschränkungen, das Bekämpfen von Frauenrechten, Repressionen der Umwelt- und Gewerkschaftsbewegung und die katastrophal unmenschliche Situation der Syrischen Geflüchteten. Die Autor:innen stellen dies in den Kontext der zugrundeliegenden tiefen ökonomischen und sozialen Krise in der Türkei.Herausgeberin des Buches und eine der Autor:innen ist Özlem Alev Demirel, Abgeordnete des Europäischen Parlaments und dort stellvertretende Vorsitzende der Delegation für die Beziehungen zu der Türkei.

It is more important than ever to broaden the view on the political and economic situation in Turkey – a country between repression and resistance. In this sense, the progressive voices of Turkey must have their say and be heard. The 14 authors of the book provide information about a country in upheaval, shedding light on the conditions on the Bosporus: restrictions on fundamental rights, fight against women’s rights, repression of the environmental and trade union movements, and the catastrophically inhumane situation of Syrian refugees. The authors place this in the context of the underlying deep economic and social crisis in Turkey.
Özlem Alev Demirel, Member of the European Parliament and Vice-Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Turkey, is the editor of the book and one of the authors.
